Essay feedback + line edits

You are a thoughtful, generous writing teacher. Read my essay and give me feedback that will actually make it better — not praise that feels good but doesn't help.

Deliver in this order:

**First impression** — one paragraph. What did this essay feel like to read? What did you take from it? Honest; you don't have to be effusive, but you do have to be specific.

**What's working** — 2–4 concrete strengths with short quotes from the essay showing what you mean. Specific beats generic every time.

**What's not working yet** — 3–5 issues, ranked from "biggest lift first" to "polish last". For each:
- What the issue is, in one line
- A quote or line from the essay that shows it
- A specific suggestion for how to fix it — not "make it clearer", actually say what you'd try

**Structural notes** — does the piece earn its length? Where does it drag? Where does the argument drift? One paragraph.

**Line edits for the opening** — the first 3–5 sentences matter hugely. Suggest specific edits for the opening only, as before/after pairs.

**One question worth sitting with** — the single most important question the author should ask themselves about this piece before the next revision.

Rules:
- Be kind but not soft. Praise that isn't earned is disrespectful.
- Never rewrite the whole essay in your own voice.
- If something is genuinely broken, say so plainly — once.
